Kalapria, the celebrated, now septuagenarian writer from Tirunelveli whose poems were first published in kachatathapara over fifty years ago represents the culmination of the new poetry: the only modern but distinct from solipsism of the first new Poets, able to apprehend the society he lives in. -ASHIK KUMAR IN CARAVAN, NOVEMBER 2018 Kalapria, since 1968 to till date during all along the 55 years has made unstinted and cherishing contribution to Tamil poetry and Tamil prose as well, making notable resurgence and resonance. Kalapria’s published titles include 25 poetry collections, 5 literary articles, 6 bio-nonfictions, 3 docu- memoirs of Tamil cinema history, 1 short story collection and very recently 4 novels of notable acclaims. Over and above these multifaceted and extra dimensional contributions to almost all the literary departments, the eight poetry workshops and seminars which he conducted at COURTALLAM’ in between 1987 and 2007 have energised and influenced deeply the next generation Tamil poetry and poets.
