குழந்தைப்பருவத்தில் பார்வதி தேவியால் ஞானப் பாலூட்டப் பெற்றவர். மழலை மாறாத நிலையிலேயே 'தோடுடைய செவியன்' எனத் தொடங்கி முதல் தேவாரம் பாடியவர். நாயன்மார்களில் ஒருவரான திருநாவுக்கரசர் நேசித்த செல்லக் குழந்தை இவர். ஏராள அற்புதங்கள் நிகழ்த்தியவர். இறைவனிடம் 'படிக்காசு' பெற்ற அருட்செல்வர்.
